Adirondack Scenic Railroad
The Adirondack Scenic Railroad currently has two sections of track operational. Trains run on the southern section from Utica to Thendara with the northern section open between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. The center section is under construction and when completed, will provide a 140 mile Adirondack Rail adventure.

All Aboard!!
All aboard for a ride into history. The Adirondack Scenic Railroad is restoring tracks back into our past. The year 2003 finds the Adirondack Scenic Railroad hosting its eleventh year of service. It also finds the railroad poised for an expansion that has only been dreamed about by volunteers, the complete restoration of the 140-mile line!
Unique. The Adirondack Scenic Railroad is unique with three distinct operating trains and a right-of-way stretching across the Adirondacks from Utica, NY through Old Forge, Tupper Lake, and Saranac Lake to Lake Placid.
The future will see further expansions. Logical expansions would be to restore the track between the current operation at Saranac Lake back to Tupper Lake, a restoration of 25 miles. Trains could then be operated between Lake Placid and Tupper Lake, tying all three principal destinations together. At the same time, the line could be extended from Thendara through the currently operating terminus of Carter Station, another 5 miles north to Big Moose, or an additional 8 miles to the Adirondack town of Beaver River, a small community with no outside roads beyond boats in the summer and snowmobiles in the winter. These natural expansions would leave the entire corridor with only the 36 mile "middle section" not done, with perhaps some of the most remote and beautiful railroad scenery in the eastern US.
Just as they have done for over ten years, the volunteers of the Adirondack Railway Preservation Society are working on their railroad. Working hard, one tie at a time until that day when the conductor of a northbound train leaving Utica’s Union Station yells "All aboard."
"All aboard for Lake Placid".
